The Governing Council
Members of the New Zealand Teachers Council
The governing Council is made up of 11 members, 4 of which are appointed by the Minister of Education including the Council Chair, 4 elected by registered teachers and 3 members are nominated by the:
- New Zealand Educational Institute (NZEI)
- Post Primary Teachers Association (PPTA)
- New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA)
Registered teachers elect 4 members from each of the following categories:
- Early childhood
- Primary
- Secondary
- Principals
The Election Process
Elections for 4 Council members are held every 3 years. To ensure that as many teachers as possible can vote, the New Zealand Teachers Council contacts registered teachers through their workplaces and individually to ensure they are registered and eligible to receive nomination and voting papers.
