The New Zealand Teachers Council has processes for considering the conduct and competence of registered teachers. Information about the processes and the rules governing these are outlined in this section.

Concerns about a registered teacher's practice

If you have received a letter from the New Zealand Teachers Council informing you that concerns have been raised about your practice,

Teachers referred to the New Zealand Teachers Council

If you are applying for teacher registration and one of the following circumstances applies, you will be referred to the New Zealand Teachers Council for consideration:

  • a complaint or mandatory report about you was received at the New Zealand Teachers Council prior to 1 September 2004; or
  • a Police vet identifies that you have a criminal conviction(s) that warrants consideration; or
  • you have previously had an application for registration declined; or
  • you have had your registration cancelled.
