Introduction to the Statement of Intent 2011 - 2014
To support the quality of registered teachers, in 2010/11 we finalised the new Initial Teacher Education Requirements, developed Induction and Mentoring Guidelines and launched the Registered Teacher Criteria. In 2011/12 we will build on these initiatives by providing induction and mentoring resources, advice on teacher appraisal linked to the Registered Teacher Criteria and increase the availability of online information for registered teachers.
We will also begin a significant new project in 2011/12. It is the review of the structure, governance arrangements and frameworks that underpin the Council's work. This is an exciting opportunity for the Council and the profession to consider what arrangements would best support teachers as they strive to give each child and young person educational experiences that will equip them to be successful New Zealanders.
In 2011 - 2014 the Council has two priorities:
Priority one: Capable teachers
Teachers are well prepared to teach and supported in their professional growth
Priority two: Professional teachers
Teachers practise at a consistently high standard
